Non-destructive testing

The essence of non-destructive testing is to obtain information on the physical condition and defects or properties of a product without changing its operational characteristics. It is the field that makes use of commonly known physical laws and phenomena allowing for assessment of a tested element without damage to its operational suitability.

The area of applications of non-destructive testing:

  • technology: testing and diagnostics,
  • anti-terrorist protection,
  • criminology,
  • medical diagnosis,
  • archaeological examination,
  • examination and conservation of works of art,
  • environmental protection.

Our speciality is non-destructive testing that we carry out on objects under construction and operation and on all structural materials - also on DUPLEX steel types.

Non-destructive testing in the technology enable:

  • detection, location, assessment of character and size of a discontinuities in production and operation,
  • specifying the structure and properties of material,
  • thickness measurement of material under examination or thickness measurement of a protective layer.

We offer testing with radiographic system to our Customers according to the diagram below:

We specialise in testing of steel structures: ships, bridges, cranes, overhead cranes, piping systems, offshore structures, forgings, castings and machinery parts.


RT-CR computed radiography method with IP plate

We carry out radiographic testing with classical methods with X-ray film as a detector with the possibility of its later digitisation, and with RT-CR computed radiography method with IP plate as a detector. We archive a complete set of documentation of testing in the digital form.

For this purpose, we use X-ray flaw detectors from Balteau within the voltage range from

140 kV up to 300 kV and isotopic flaw detectors with Selenium 75 or Iridium 192 as a source. We have got both a permanent automatic dark room as well as a mobile dark room installed in a van.


TECHNIC-CONTROL Sp. z o.o. is the leader in the digital radiography. In cooperation with the British company CIT - Computerised Information Technology Ltd, we implemented the DR3000 system enabling digitisation of classical radiographs - conversion of an image from the X-ray film into a digital image viewable on the screen of any computer, whereas based on the Dürr system, we implemented the CR computed radiography system - with use of IP plate as a detector.


Application of the DR3000 system

The software used by us offers the possibility of a precise analysis of saved images and enriching the testing reports with a set of X-ray images on CD’s with the possibility of viewing them on any computer.

An essential module of the DR3000 system is the application enabling assessment of corrosion effects [thickness measurement] on the basis of X-ray images taken. It is possible to assess the corrosion state of e.g. pipes with a very high precision through determination of their actual thickness on the basis of X-ray image taken. It is possible both for non-insulated pipes as well as insulated ones without the necessity to remove the insulation. At the moment, we are the only company in Poland that offers such a technology.


To determine the thickness of pipe walls - including insulated ones without the necessity to remove the insulation - we use the method of profile or tangential radiography, and to determine corrosion losses on plates we use the penetrable material thickness method. In both cases perpendicular exposure technique is used.

Ultrasonic methods [UT]:

We offer execution of ultrasonic testing of welded joints of steel structures of ships, bridges, cranes, overhead cranes, offshore structures as well as castings and machinery parts made of ferritic, austenitic and DUPLEX type steels.

We carry out such testing with a contact method using the equipment from KRAUTKRAMER and OLYMPUS – flaw detectors USD10, USN50, USN52, USM 25S, USM35XS, EPOCH-600.


The testing is carries out by the personnel qualified and certified at Level 2 according to PN-EN ISO 9712 (PN-EN 473) standard in the industrial sectors of:

  • metal manufacturing and processing,
  • pre- and in-service testing of equipment, plant and structures,
  • railway maintenance;
  • PED – sector covered by the pressure equipment directive
The supervision of the testing is carried out by the personnel certified at Level 3 according to PN-EN ISO 9712 (PN-EN 473).

We also offer testing in the mechanised system and with use of phased array probes with UT-PA method [Phased Array] and with TOFD method using scanners and OmniScan flaw detectors from Olympus.

Ultrasonic testing in linear and sector approach In the ultrasonic testing, we have the possibility to fully document the testing process, simultaneously presenting the records in the A-scan, B-scan, C-scan and S-scan in linear and sector approach.



In the ultrasonic testing, we also offer ultrasonic thickness measurements of steel structures - also through paint coatings without the necessity to remove them. This is enabled by the ultrasonic thickness gauges we have, i.e. BETAGAGE, DMS2TC and DMS2 with additional imaging of the A type - paint thickness is ignored during such a measurement. We specialise in comprehensive classification inspections and thickness measurements of seagoing ships in service.

Surface methods:


We offer the following surface methods to our Customers:

  • Visual testing of welded joints, forgings and castings. We use diagnostic mirrors and optical endoscopes in places where the access for visual examination is difficult. We are able to record the image in the JPEG format or in the form of a short video.
